Caleb has been playing on a local Hollywood neighborhood team until the high school season starts here this month. They just got done with their league games, and tied for the championships. He actually scored the tying goal in the 90th minute of play last weekend!
Here is a shot of him & the team afterwards […]

voice of the day

You are different. You are different because now you know that God exists, and [God] alone matters. It is an overwhelming, awesome thought…. You are different in the sense that now all people belong to you and are part of you, and you belong to all people. At the same time, you belong only to […]

America’s frustration with Christians…

Interesting juxtaposition of readings for me here today…
First I read this article: A New Generation Expresses its Skepticism and Frustration with Christianity
Then I read this article about Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa investigating Televangelists’ finances.
They seem to be sadly linked in my opinion.

buy, buy — L.A. culture craze

Posted by greglarson in Los Angeles, quotes, theology at 2:49 pm | Permanent Link

Consumerism is the curse that has infected our culture at large, and even the church culture in America. We have to figure out ways to confront it and replace it with an authentic, vibrant faith in our lives, and in the lives of others.

“In the world it is called Tolerance, but in hell it is called Despair, the sin that believes in nothing, cares for nothing, seeks to know nothing, interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, hates nothing, finds purpose in nothing, lives for nothing, and remains alive because there is nothing for which it will die.”  -Dorothy Sayers

Evangelicalism is changing

Posted by greglarson in Ministry / church related, theology at 8:39 am | Permanent Link

Like it or not, it sure seems like the Evangelical world is changing.
Personally, I like it. We have gotten way too involved with politics over the years, and I feel like along the way somewhere, we have forgotten the simple message of Jesus.

What’s new in LA Times news…

Here is an interesting article on doubt, and pure religion (James 1:26-27)
Doubting God but still doing good — Is it a desire to believe that pushes people like Mother Teresa to help those whom others abandon?
Simply the juxtaposition of the preceding article, next to what I read after that was telling and ironic…

Here is a […]

Proverbs

Posted by greglarson in family at 6:31 am | Permanent Link

Caleb & I have started this recently — reading one proverb a day together. In today’s world, for a old man like myself, it is fun texting him at school with what I get out of the Proverb.
It reminded me of this passage in Proverbs 2, one of the very first that I ever memorized […]

Open-Arms Conservatism

Great article about the two ways that the ’soul’ of the Republican party can go in the direction of…
Here is an excerpt:
“There are, in fact, two belief systems contending for the soul of the Republican Party, but one is not liberalism. The two intellectually vital movements within the Republican Party today are libertarianism and Roman […]
