Psalm 135
15 The idols of the nations are merely things of silver and gold,
shaped by human hands.
16 They have mouths but cannot speak,
and eyes but cannot see.
17 They have ears but cannot hear,
and noses but cannot smell.
18 And those who make idols are just like them,
as are all who trust in them.
There are some kinds of sin from which one is more likely to be converted by laughter than by argument. Israel felt that way about idol-makers and idol-worshipers. Her favorite weapon against the pretentious absurdities of the idols was a good horselaugh. - Eugene Peterson
Prayer: God Almighty, I than you for the ability to laugh at the ridiculous posturing of pride, for the perspective to see the clownish behavior of the arrogant. From insights gathered while laughing, build in me humility and loyalty as I serve you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
