Prayer is elemental, not advanced, language

In his introduction to Psalms in The Message, Eugene Peterson notes something that I need to keep coming back to - that prayer is basic! It is not rocket science. He states:

“Prayer is elemental, not advanced, language. It is the means by which our language becomes honest, true and personal in response to God. It is the means by which we get everything in our lives out in the open before God.”

With everything in my mind this week relating to Virginia Tech, but even more than that — simply all of the evil in this world. I have to have an outlet to process these things. An outlet where my word to God becomes honest, true & personal. Not complicated. Where I get everything in my heart — out in the open before God.

All of the confusion, all of the pain, all of the rage — all of it. I need that, and so do you.
