gotta love this city

Even though I was driving somewhere at 7:30p tonight — (on a side-street no less), was stuck in traffic for close to 20 minutes to go about 2 miles ??!!
However, that being said — we love L.A. !! Where we are living now, is only 2 blocks from this big pool (that is free!), and a great soccer complex - which Caleb is stoked about…

Also, another thing that we love is how diverse L.A. is — it is amazing. Michelle has found this very inexpensive grocery store ‘Food 4 Less’, which is not the creme de la creme of grocery stores — but it is cheap! Anyway, I realized when we were there on Sunday that we were the only ones speaking English on most of the aisles. Spanish for some, Armenian for some, Chinese for some, Korean (I think) for some, etc.
We are in a different world out here…

You know, it’s funny. Heather and I like Minneapolis a lot.
I think, however, that in my heart I’ll always be an “Angelino.” I miss a lot of things about L. A. (but definitely not the traffic you mentioned).
The traffic gets worse. Back during the holiday season, I remember picking someone up from the airport to take them to just outside of L. A. It took us six hours to go 85 miles.
But, I guess that’s what happens when you live in a county that has 9.5 million residents.
I love the pictures and the news.

Man,
I am so glad you guys are in Los Angeles. It truly is a diverse place. I think being in a place like that will facilitate your own growth in understanding the Kingdom of Jesus moving beyond neighborhood and national borders.
Hopefully I will be able to visit the city of messengers sometime in the next year.

Dan — I am glad that you like Minneapolis. It is a great city. I dont miss it yet — maybe someday.
Billy — nice hearing from you! Would love to see you out here someday.
Please pray for what you mentioned:
that this could really happen out here — the “Kingdom of Jesus moving beyond neighborhood and national borders”.
Peace.

Hey Greg!
I so miss that about Amsterdam. For me coming back to a homgenius society was probably one of my biggest challenges to readjusting initially.
Now it’s a host of things. (Crazy that I’ve been back considerably longer than I was gone and I still don’t feel adjusted. It’s true what they say - you can’t go back.)
I tried to comment before, but your blog’s comments area doesn’t like me… anyway, it’s fun to see some places in your photos that I recognize from my visits out there.
Glad to hear that it sounds like things are going well!

Erica — I bet you do miss that. Never been to Amsterdam, but I would love to go there someday. Can so totally see you in that city. You were born to live abroad I think.
Come out & visit us sometime. We would love to see you.

Greg, Michelle, Caleb & Elizabeth;
One of my favorite songs is Randy Newman’s “I Love LA”. I trust you’re familiar with it. If not, check it out. I miss you guys and pop in on the blog every once in a while to see how you’re doing. My daughter Carrie just heard she passed her bar exam for law school so that’s big news here. She’s in Costa Rica for a few months building fluency in espanol to assist her work with immigration law. I trust you will be a blessing to those lives you touch in LA - all four of you. I hope you can make new friends, new discoveries and new growth on the coast.
God bless you all,
Mark
