Mercy:
Pronunciation: ‘m&r-sE
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French merci, from Medieval Latin merced-, merces, from Latin, price paid, wages, from merc-, merx merchandise
1 a : compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one’s power; also : lenient or compassionate treatment
This morning I was reading Psalm 51 and I realized how dependent I am on God’s mercy in my life. I am so dependent, and grateful that God’s mercy is so rich.
Prayer: Merciful God, how dependent I am on your mercy! Everything I am and all I do falls short of your glory. Still, you do not condemn me. Gratefully, I live in your grace and experience your forgiveness in Jesus. Amen. –E. Peterson
