Disrupting My Comfort Zone

I was listening to NPR a couple of days ago, and heard a short talk by Brian Grazer. He co-founded Imagine Entertainment with Ron Howard. (I love his hair by the way)

His talk was called ‘this I believe’, which was one of many talks in their All Things Considered program.
He said a few things that stood out to me, but one especially — probably because I could so relate to it. For those of you who don’t know — I am working for a missions organization and I am raising support to move out to LA with my family in August. We are close to 90% of where we need to be — but there are days where I just want to be done with this process. Brian said this about his life:
“So why do I continue to subject myself to this sort of thing? The answer is simple: Disrupting my comfort zone, bombarding myself with challenging people and situations — this is the best way I know to keep growing. And to paraphrase a biologist I once met, if you’re not growing, you’re dying.”
It helped to give me the emotional energy that I needed to keep at it that day, and this day, and hopefully tomorrow.

The “This I Believe” series is excellent. I’ve heard some great thoughts from the series. If you get a chance, look back through the archives for Isabele Allende. She has some great thoughts about giving of yourself. One quote I love and keep at my desk is, “What is the point of having experience, knowledge or talent if I don’t give it away? Or of having stories if I don’t share them to others?”
