Disrupting My Comfort Zone

Posted by greglarson in Uncategorized at 8:03 am | Permanent Link

I was listening to NPR a couple of days ago, and heard a short talk by Brian Grazer. He co-founded Imagine Entertainment with Ron Howard.  (I love his hair by the way)

His talk was called ‘this I believe’, which was one of many talks in their All Things Considered  program.
He said a few things that […]

…coming world ‘order’

Great thoughts from Tim Keller on ministry on the new global culture of major world cities…
Globalization is making major world cities more powerful than ever. Why?
1) The mobility of capital means national governments are now virtually powerless to control the flow of money in and out of their own economies, thus greatly decreasing their […]

Mexico lost yesterday to Argentina 2-1. But they have nothing to feel ashamed about. The winning goal, was the most beautiful goal that I have seen so far in this World Cup.

Psalm 69:30 - 31 Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor him with thanksgiving. For this will please the LORD more than sacrificing an ox or presenting a bull with its horns and hooves.
Eugene Peterson in his slender, but wonderful book — Praying with the Psalms - says this:
‘The great […]

the end of a dream

Posted by greglarson in news at 8:17 pm | Permanent Link

Well, my son Caleb and I have been waiting months for the World Cup, and just like that - in about a week and a half - the U.S. has bowed out and did not make it to the final 16 this year. I know, I know, I know — when the U.S. made it […]

The Beautiful Game

Posted by greglarson in news at 7:11 pm | Permanent Link

Well, they did not win…. but they did not lose though either.
The referee was terrible, the play got kind of chippy — but the Americans surprised my son and I today & showed a lot of heart.
Best of all, the U.S. soccer team still have a chance to get into the final 16 of the […]

proud soccer Dad….

Posted by greglarson in family at 11:15 am | Permanent Link

My son’s U-14 soccer team lost last night 3-1, but he did score their only goal!
That might sound like I am one of those soccer dads that is living vicariously through their child. Well, I hope not — but it is fun to watch him play.

Why does the church exist?

Posted by greglarson in theology at 10:43 am | Permanent Link

N.T. Wright suggests the church exists for different reasons than many of us think:
“According to the early Christians, the church doesn’t exist in order to provide a place where people can pursue their private spiritual agendas and develop their own spiritual potential. Nor does it exist in order to provide a safe haven in which […]

hilarious political video

Posted by greglarson in humor at 11:17 am | Permanent Link

Probably many of you have already seen this, but I thought it was so funny — it was worth another look today.
I forwarded it to a very good friend today (Steve — who is has a little different political leanings than I do), and this is what he said about it: “I just watched it. […]

feels the light

My wife and I are involved in a specific ministry with a local ‘mega-church’. We don’t attend there, we attend a local, much smaller, emerging church called Solomon’s Porch. Not sure why, but it is a little hard to admit that we are involved in a ministry at a ‘mega-church’. I think it is just […]
